The Beginning of my Journey by

Dr. Pastora Hernandez Barbee, Ed.D, LMHC, MHP

I’m blessed in ways that I often don’t recognize; but I shift my perspective to see all the wonderful things that have been done for me.

Welcome to LaFontana Counseling & Consultation Services

Thank you for visiting my site and considering my services. I am honored to share a bit about my journey with you.

I am a bilingual Mental Health Professional, Educator, and state-certified Spanish Social and Medical Interpreter. Originally from Nicaragua, Central America, I have proudly called Washington State home for over 14 years. My passion for exploring the world has deepened my appreciation for diverse cultures, and I enjoy discovering new cuisines while supporting sustainability through mindful food choices.

I am an advocate for mindfulness practices and spiritual growth. My interests include meditation, body calmness, positive psychology, and spirituality, as well as staying active and eating healthily—knowing the profound impact these habits have on mental health and overall well-being. As a therapist, mentor, and educator, my mission is to inspire and model self-love as a foundation for personal growth. In these challenging times, I encourage you to nurture connections within your community—our collective bonds are essential for resilience and support. My commitment to mental health advocacy runs deep. Volunteering at a local mental health clinic has allowed me to transform this passion into meaningful action, providing support to those in need and contributing to the well-being of my community.

Beyond my professional work, my hobbies and interests play a vital role in my personal well-being. Whether walking through town with my dogs, Jak and Lola, or dancing in Earth Day parades, these activities bring me joy and balance. They also foster connections with like-minded individuals who share my values.

Above all, my most cherished moments are spent with my family—grounding me in love, purpose, and gratitude.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I look forward to the possibility of working with you on your journey toward greater well-being and fulfillment.

I employ a multidisciplinary, systemic, holistic, existential, and client-centered approach when working with individuals. I believe in the immense potential within each person and their innate capacity to heal and grow.

Rooted in psychodynamic, humanistic, cognitive, emotion-focused, and behavioral theories, my core training informs my practice. However, I integrate evidence-based techniques and mindfulness practices, recognizing the profound connection between the mind, body, and soul.

By weaving in life choices, resiliency, spiritual guidance and life coaching, I address the intricate relationship between mental, physical, & spiritual health.

Therapy, to me, is a creative and transformative process. My goal is to tailor each session to the unique needs of my clients, drawing on a variety of tools and resources to foster awareness of presenting issues. Together, we work collaboratively to develop the skills and strategies needed to enhance life experiences and achieve positive, sustainable outcomes.

My Therapeutic Approach

AUTHENTIC SELF

My practice is guided by principles of authenticity, intuition, self-love, gratitude, accountability, and forgiveness. I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is warm, empathetic, and empowering, allowing clients to feel supported as they navigate their journey toward healing and fulfillment.

I believe that removing harmful elements from our lives creates space for growth and the opportunity to align more fully with our LIFE’S PURPOSE.
